A Poem from a Father to a Daughter

Raising a daughter...that meant I would have to be gentler and give out caresses
It meant playing with little dollies and tea parties and yes, I would even have to buy her dresses.
But I realized what a wonderful and precious gift you were as I held you in my arms that day
And as I gazed at your beautiful face, you melted my heart and showed me the Lord’s love and His way

You began to walk and talk and I watched in awe as you grew
Because I didn’t think a little girl could make me so happy but you see, the Lord Almighty knew
Believe it or not the Lord knew what He was doing when He blessed me with a girl
For He packaged in you the gift of Love, Kindness, and Gentleness which are far more valuable than a pearl

I was proud of you when I knew you accepted Jesus our Lord into your heart
And as you grow and learn the Lord’s way I pray from which you never will depart
The Lord knows how much I love you, my daughter, and how much you mean to me
But always remember that the Love of the Lord is greater, for I am just a man, don’t you see?

So may God make you, Morgan, like a tree firmly planted by streams of water
And may you grow strong and true in His ways, because you are His daughter
Oh Lord, may Morgan always abide in your Love and may she dwell in your Holy place
May she walk with integrity and do works of righteousness and may she always see Your face

May she be like clay on the spinning wheel, molded and perfectly made, by the expert hand of the Potter
So, I stand before the Father on this day to say THANK YOU LORD FOR MY WONDERFUL DAUGHTER
Yes a daughter…not another son…this much is true
But the Lord knew what I needed and what I needed was you.
